Social Status x Nike Dunk “Free Lunch”

If it’s true that the most successful sneaker collaborations have a story to tell, then the upcoming Social Status Nike Dunk should be a case study on how to deliver on every level. This marks the first time that the retail brand has collaborated with Nike.

What makes this special is the depth and authenticity to the story behind the sneakers. James Whitner found his inspiration from personal experience. The free lunch program, a federal initiative that provides free school meals to children living in underserved communities across the country, was a direct experience that many young black kids grow up participating in. Whitner decided to tap into that nostalgic experience of his own and remembers one of the first times he was challenged with making an independent choice his own; Strawberry or Chocolate Milk?

The “not a high, not a low, not a mid” Nike Dunk features a mix of velvet and leather throughout the upper with hints of chocolate, strawberry, orange and green. Personally, The Whitner Group (who was also responsible for the Jordan 3 A Ma Maniere gem that may is the sneaker of the year to many) never misses when it comes to concept and color ways. The Social Status Nike Dunk delivered on all levels.

Release Dates are set one week apart from each other so there’s a chance for you to enter both raffles. The first raffle is set for September 10 (Chocolate Milk colorway), followed by September 18 (Strawberry Milk colorway). Retail is set for $130 and will be available via raffle on the Social Status site (SNKRS release is TBD).
